for horses and disadvantaged youth

RR Saddle Club Newsletter October 2009

We are on our 5th Month here at RR Saddle Club! And what a difference. The horses are fat and happy, and the riders seem to be pretty satisfied with the rides as well.
Horses: We have a new horse, his name is Easy he is on loan from Steve Opie ( Thanks Steve!)We have a place to put tack and saddles, each horse has it's own saddle. The horses have had regular trimmings. The little Arabs Spiderman and Little Star are finally calming down a little. We have a total of 8 horses under our care and will be a total of 10 when the mamma and babies come over from ken's property. Speaking of which, that needs to be done soon! Mamma horse is doing very poorly and needs to have the colt weened off of her.

Ranch work and life: Thank you for all the volunteers that came in August and in September to help with fencing and setting up for the September Campout. We had a Work n Ride on Labor Day all day and relaxed around the campfire at the end of the day. We got alot done, including fencing, taking out a guest ride in beautiful weather.

People: We have currently a total of 10 volunteers, and are definitely looking for more. So tell your friends, work and come and ride with us! We want to thank Lynne for donating the signs, and Rob for the barb wire. We also owe John a few rides for the work he has done in August and September.

Advertising: We have tons of flyers to give out, and we are looking for people who are willing to post some every where they go. I would also like to start asking businesses if they want to start advertising on the website and on any posters we have.

Scholarships:We are granting a scholarship this month to a Big Brother, Big Sister member for the September Campout.

Balance Sheet: We have a current total earnings of $406 as of 10 September 09

Expenses: We will owe Tranvis Bergstrom $200 on about the 8th of October. We plan on taking the horses shoes off for the off season and using easy boots whenever necessary to save on expenses.

Events: We have the First Annual September Campout 2009. Contact Caralyn at 503 884 2921 to make a reservation or go online to www.realridertack.org/rrsc to reserve your tickets now. Cost includes BBQ, all meals, tent, RV site, 2 hour rides. Activities possible include rafting, fishing, biking, hiking the falls, horse care classes.

I need to know what would be a good time for all volunteers interested in the Club what would be a good time to meet and start official club meetings.

Projects needing Completion:
We need to get the hitching rail done where the tack trailer is usually parked. We have plenty of poplar logs to accomplish this task.
Fencing along the east 40 need to be completed as well as the fencing facing the ranch house.
The old travel trailer 5th wheel either needs to find a scrap yard or get fixed up.
All of the saddles need to be outfitted with larger tapadero stirrups.

The horses are due for worming-we need to line them up and get that done

RR Saddle Club Mission Statement:

RR Saddle Club is committed to public education about horses, through rides, camps, and any available media.
Our goal is to provide a place to ride for the horse loving community - whether they are able to own a horse or not.
Your contributions, by the way of signing up for trail rides, campouts, and other fundraisers will help low income kids, foster children and adults with the dream of being able to ride and be with horses. We hope to rescue horses from abusive and neglectful situations when funding allows.
